PROF Datuk Dr Husaini Omar (picture) has been appointed the new Higher Education DG effective Feb 1, 2021.
This is a two-year tenureship which will end on Mar 9, 2023.
In a statement today, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said Husaini, who is currently the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) CEO will replace Prof Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak who retired on Jan 10.
Husaini has eight years of experience as a geological engineer before starting his career as a lecturer at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Faculty of Engineering in 1996.
Husaini, 57, holds Bachelor of Science with Honors in Geology from the University of Malaya in 1988 before pursuing his Masters degree in Geological Engineering at the University of Leeds, United Kingdom.
He then furthered his studies in the Doctorate of Engineering (System Engineering) and graduated from UPM in 2002.
“I believe that with his outstanding expertise, experience and achievements, Husaini will continue to boost the country’s higher education performance in line with the aspirations outlined in the Malaysian Education Development Plan (Higher Education) 2015-2025,” said Noraini.
Husaini was appointed as MQA CEO on Jun 1, 2020.
