MELAKA – More and more donors have come forward to help Zoo Melaka with basic necessities and food to ensure the animals survive the movement control order (MCO).
Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) president, Datuk Shadan Othman, said he appreciated their support since there are less visitors and revenue generated from ticket sales.
“After people got to know that we were facing shortages, many animal lovers from Melaka, as well as Kuala Lumpur, started donating food supplies every week and end of the month.
“We’re encouraging contributions to help the over 600 animals at the zoo during this difficult period,” he told Bernama today, while adding that the zoo needs around RM100,000 per month to cover its costs.
However, they are still managing despite being closed and continuously monitor zoo animal welfare.
“We are praying that the pandemic ends soon so that life can return to normal and visitors will come back,” he added.
Yesterday, Senior Minister (Security Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, announced that the MCO in Penang, Selangor, Melaka, Johor, Sabah, Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan would be extended to Feb 4 because cases are rising again.
