COMMERCIAL customers from the six sectors which were not included in the initial approved list by the government may submit their appeal by filling up the 10% Discount Application form.

This is regarding the recent announcement on power discounts for the sectors under the Malaysian Economic and Rakyat’s Protection Assistance Package (Permai).

According to Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), 10,768 of its commercial customers from the six sectors that had received the 15% discount under the Economic Stimulus Package 2020 are automatically eligible for the Permai discount.

“Submission can be made via email to TNB Careline at [email protected]; or the nearest Kedai Tenaga (once the Movement Control Order is lifted),” it said in a statement yesterday.

Prime Minister (PM) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in his announcement on Permai on Monday stated that six selected commercial sectors will receive a 10% discount for their electricity consumption from Jan 1 until March 31, 2021.

The six sectors, namely hotel operators, theme parks, convention centres, shopping malls, local airline offices, and travel and tour agencies have been severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The electricity rebate for the sectors heavily impacted by the Covid-19 will be funded by the government as it will include contributions from the Electricity Industry Fund.

Malaysian Employers Federation ED Datuk Shamsuddin Bardan said the discount and rebates offered to TNB users, both domestic and non-domestic, would alleviate some of the burden.

“The initiatives under Permai overall will assist many employers to remain afloat during the challenging period and as such would reduce retrenchment and layoffs,” he told The Malaysian Reserve.

The PM announced Permai, valued at RM15 billion, in order to improve the existing ongoing initiatives and accelerate the implementation of related initiatives.

Muhyiddin said Permai has 22 initiatives anchored by three main objectives, which are combating the Covid-19 outbreak, safeguarding the welfare of the people and supporting business continuity.

Under the first goal of combating the Covid-19 pandemic, he said the government has allocated an additional RM1 billion comprising RM800 million to the Health Ministry, and the remainder to the National Security Council and other relevant agencies.
