BUKIT Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran says today that his affordable Covid-19 testing programme will resume from Monday until Friday next week, after a temporary suspension.
The rapid antigen (RTK-AG) tests will now be conducted at the MBPJ Multipurpose Hall in Jalan 51A/227, from 1pm to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Still priced at RM70 for everyone, the tests will be conducted by the previous clinic partners on-site, and can accommodate up to 250 walk-in patients per day.
“We had been conducting the affordable testing initiative in three clinics up to last week. However, with the record-breaking number of daily cases, the need for testing – especially in larger scales – has also increased.
We temporarily suspended the program last week as we had to stop the crowds building up outside the respective clinics. We were looking for a bigger venue to accommodate the demand and now we are pleased to announce that the initiative is back on,” Rajiv said in a statement.
“As a start, we will be running this over a 5-day trial period until 22 January 2021. This will give us time to evaluate the challenges, learn from it and make the necessary changes to continue the initiative. Therefore, we are calling for doctors or testing partners to join us so that we can keep this initiative going,” he added.
RELA volunteers will help with security and placing a few staff on site to ensure that everyone adheres to the SOPs in place – social distancing, wearing masks, as well as checking in on MySejahtera application.
The number of daily cases have been consistently increasing and is projected to hit 5,000 daily cases next and 8,000 daily cases by March.
“The main reason we are continuing our initiative is to fulfill the strong demand for affordable testing as many have come into contact with a positive patient in recent days and are anxious for their well-being,” he said further.
“I am stepping in to do what I can and I am so glad to see that several other assemblymen have followed suit to provide affordable testing in their areas as well.”
