PETROLIAM Nasional Bhd (Petronas) via its subsidiary Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) has taken over the operatorship of the E11 gas hub located 130km offshore Bintulu, Sarawak, as of Jan 1, 2021.
Petronas Malaysia assets VP Bacho Pilong said this marks a significant milestone for PCSB as the operator of the E11 hub, which is pivotal in ensuring reliable, stable and cleaner energy supply to the market while continuing to develop Sarawak as a regional gas hub.
“Sarawak Shell Bhd (SSB) and Petronas implemented all the necessary activities, which started in July 2019, to ensure a smooth handover of the E11 hub.
“Today marks a significant milestone for PCSB as the operator of the E11 hub which is pivotal in ensuring reliable, stable and cleaner energy supply to the market, while continuing to develop Sarawak as a regional gas hub,” he said in a statement yesterday.
The E11 hub has been operating since 1982 under the Malaysia liquefied natural gas (MLNG) production sharing contract, and was operated by SSB for the past 38 years.
The commemoration of the handover was held at SSB’s main office in Lutong, Sarawak, on Dec 31, 2020, during which a memento was presented to SSB by PCSB
Sarawak gas division senior GM Peter Majid. SSB at the event was represented by its Sarawak asset GM Jill Chieng.
Others who were present virtually include Bacho, Malaysia Petroleum Management operations management Handan Ramli and Joint Venture Malaysia senior GM Zulkarnain Ismail.
