MERCEDES-BENZ Malaysia Sdn Bhd has unveiled the new GLA, an addition to its G Class family priced from RM244,000.

According to a Facebook launch, the GLA comes in two variants — namely the GLA 200 Progressive Line with a retail price starting from RM244,149.82 and the sporty GLA 250 AMG Line which costs RM285,336.66. Both prices are valid until Dec 31.

The GLA 200 consists of a 1.3- litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, 163hp and 250Nm of torque, as well as a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

On the other hand, the GLA 250 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, 224hp and 350Nm of torque, and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia sales and marketing VP Michael Jopp said the new GLA features an expressive design and contrasting traits that make it stand out among other SUVs in the Mercedes G Class family.

“It combines masculine off-road genes with central purity. It possesses powerful proportions while maintaining compact dimensions and has a powerful shoulder and yet a coupé-like silhouette,” he said.

The GLA combines the elements of the compact car and the SUV, which offers a unique lifestyle proposition like the larger GLB.

“The size makes it easy to manoeuvre within city roads and complements long journeys with comfort and ease,” said Jopp.

Taller in height and shorter in length, the GLA’s comfortable and spacious interior has an increase of 12cm in the rear’s legroom to pro-vide comfort to taller passengers.

The new model is equipped with the latest version of the MBUX infotainment system at Mercedes me connect. Hence, users would be able to access services such as live traffic information or the remote vehicle finder.

“With the Mercedes me app, your smartphone becomes the digital link to your vehicle. You have an overview of all information and control of your vehicle via the app, and you can even start your vehicle remotely,” Jopp said.

When it comes to safety, the new GLA has a healthy dose of systems which not only take care of the passengers, but also the pedestrians outside.

“One example is the active Brake Assist system which minimises the chance of an accident with a warning and subsequently braking automatically.

“The safety features on the GLA include a pre-set system, while the GLA 250 has a Blind Spot Assist,” Jopp added.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia president and CEO Dr Claus Weidner said their SUVs represent confidence, power, luxury and exclusivity.

“Today, the new GLA will join the family as an entry-level model, completing the Mercedes SUV portfolio. We have made the GLA better in every aspect,” he said.
