Iconic Worlwide to produce PPE from September
ICONIC Worldwide Bhd officially held a groundbreaking ceremony for its wholly owned subsidiary, Iconic Medicare Sdn Bhd’s new personal protective equipment (PPE) manufacturing facility for gloves and face masks in Batu Kawan, Penang, on Saturday. In a statement, the company said Iconic Medicare’s PPE manufacturing facility is expected to yield a minimum production capacity of approximately 3.3 billion pieces of gloves per annum and approximately 220 million pieces of face masks per annum. The new factory is expected to be completed in July 2021 and operational in September 2021.
HWG to distribute Covid-19 antibody detection kit
HO WAH Genting Bhd’s (HWG) subsidiary HWGB Medical Devices and Supplies Sdn Bhd has been made the exclusive distributor of Wenzhou OJA Biotechnology Co Ltd’s SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibody detection kit in Malaysia and Indonesia. In a statement recently, the company said this rst-of-its-kind detection kit has an important role in con rming the production of antibodies against coronavirus causing Covid-19. Clinically, antibody against Covid-19 is an important marker for assessing the effectiveness of the new coronavirus vaccines.
7-Eleven M’sia announces the passing of former CEO
7-ELEVEN Malaysia Holdings Bhd (SEM) announced its former CEO Colin George Harvey passed away on Saturday due to complications from a recent illness. In a statement yesterday, SEM chairman Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Embong said, “We are greatly saddened by the passing of Harvey and on behalf of our board of directors, management team and employees, we extend our deepest sympathies to Harvey’s family”. Harvey was CEO of 7-Eleven Malaysia from July 2018 until November 2020 prior to his current designation as the advisor to the group.
Govt eyes RM500m from palm oil windfall tax
THE government is expected to earn a palm oil windfall profit levy of RM500 million in 2021 if the price of crude palm oil remains stable at RM3,300 per tonne until next year. Malaysian Palm Oil Board chairman Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub said this is an important contribution to the GDP as the country grapples with the Covid19 pandemic. “The palm oil windfall pro t levy imposed on palm oil revenue at the current price level will enable the country to collect about RM348 million. If the price remains stable at the RM3,300 per tonne and above level until 2021, the government may earn RM500 million or more,” he said after the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil Certi cation Scheme for Smallholders Campaign in Raub, Pahang, on Saturday. — Bernama
