The Ministry of Health says it will continue to monitor on the vaccine supply issue by pharmaceutical company Pfizer Inc.

Health DG Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said to date, the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Division (NPRA) has not received any documents from Pfizer for the registration, evaluation and testing of Covid-19 vaccine products.

“This development thus states that the ministry does not have any information related to the issue of vaccine dose supply problems as reported.

“However, the ministry will continue to monitor the development of the Covid-19 vaccine by Pfizer and get more information on this matter,” he said in a statement today.

Dr Noor Hisham said this in response to the public inquiries on a report released by the international media, Reuters yesterday (Dec 4) entitled ‘Pfizer says supply chain challenges contributed to slashed targets for Covid-19 vaccine doses in 2020’.

He explained it is the responsibility of NPRA and MoH to ensure that before a product is registered for marketing in Malaysia, it must first go through an evaluation and testing process based on the principles of quality, safety and effectiveness.

“NPRA also needs to ensure the quality, safety and effectiveness of vaccines and medicines through quality product monitoring programmes, as well as pharmacovigilance.

“The MoH will inform the public of the latest developments from time to time,” he explained.
