i-Sinar to aid members with affected income

The EPF details criteria under Category 1 and Category 2 for fund members, depending on their needs

THE Employees Provident Fund (EPF) members with affected income during the pandemic can apply for the Account 1 withdrawal or i-Sinar facility beginning Dec 21.

The EPF also detailed the criteria under Category 1 and Category 2 for the fund members, depending on their needs.

For Category 1, those who are eligible include members who work in the formal sector, self-employed, gig worker, those who have not contributed for a long time, those who have lost their jobs, housewives or those who have been given unpaid leave notice.

The criteria for Category 1 are members who have no contribution with the EPF for at least two months consecutively during application and members who are still working, but have experienced a reduction in basic salary by 30% and above after March 2020.

No supporting document is required for Category 1 and it will be approved automatically based on EPF internal data.

Members only need to apply online through isinar.kwsp.gov.my from Dec 21 and payment will begin from mid-January 2021.

For Category 2, it includes members who are still employed but have experienced an overall income reduction of 30% and above (including reduction in salaries and allowances, or deduction of overtime work claims) after March 2020, for which the reduction can only be identified through the documents provided.

To facilitate the verification process, the EPF needs supporting documents from members, namely salary slip before and after income reduction and notice of termination or deduction of allowances and/or overtime claims.

If the above documents cannot be submitted, any other supporting documents such as bank statements or employer’s confirmation letters will be taken into consideration.

Members can apply online through isinar.kwsp.gov.my starting Jan 11, 2021, for Category 2.

The EPF said to ensure that the application is considered in detail, the status of the application will be informed to the members within two to three weeks after the application is made.

Payment will be made before the end of February 2021, after approval is given.

Furthermore, the EPF said the qualified amount for i-Sinar is subject to the savings balance of the member’s Account 1.
