THE government is considering the reintroduction of the National Service Training Programme (PLKN) to continue instilling patriotism among youth, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the Public Service Department has offered jobs through soft landing and contract basis for 1,394 former PLKN trainers who had been placed at various agencies and ministries.

“The appointments aim to provide financial support for trainers who lost their jobs when the PLKN programme was terminated.

“The former trainers are placed at various government agencies and ministries beginning 2019 and throughout 2020,” he told Dewan Rakyat today.

Former Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman announced in August 2018 that the programme, along with National Civics Bureau (BTN) programme would be abolished.
