MOTOSIKAL dan Enjin Nasional Sdn Bhd (Modenas) has launched the Modenas Elegan 250 ABS (anti-lock braking system) variant priced at RM15,315.
The national motorcycle manufacturer introduced the new maxi-scooter that offers several upgrades from its predecessor, positioning it as the most value-for-money scooter in its segment.
“The launch of the ABS variant of the Modenas Elegan 250 provides Malaysian customers with more choices, especially in the maxi-scooter segment. ABS is increasingly becoming one of the most important and useful safety features in the motorcycle world and coupled with the variant’s other enhancements, I am confident that it will prove to be a success in the market,” CEO Roslan Roskan said in a statement yesterday.
He said while the Covid-19 situation remains uncertain in the country, Modenas has been working hard over the past months to make up for lost time due to the various disruptions as a result of the pandemic.
The CEO said Modenas — a 70%-owned company by DRB-Hicom Bhd — is planning for more launches that are believed to help the company end the year on a stronger footing.
The new Modenas Elegan 250 ABS comes with a fuel-injected, four-stroke and single-cylinder, SOHC 250cc engine that produces a maximum power of 16.5kW at 7000rpm and 22.4Nm at 6500rpm of torque. It has a liquid cooling system for improved cooling performance, providing its engine with better protection and longer durability.
The ABS variant also offers a multi-functional digital speedo-meter that does not compromise on the visibility of information.
Modenas said some of the features are not available from higher-priced competitors such as trip-meter, digital clock, battery voltage indicator and oil service reminder for visual convenience.
Additionally, the new maxi-scooter features a USB charger socket strategically fitted near the handlebar, allowing riders to charge their smartphones on the go.
While ABS brakes are common on cars, the system is increasingly installed on two-wheelers.
The new Elegan 250 ABS maxi-scooter variant gets dual-channel ABS that prevents the wheels from locking up and provides superior stopping power in all weather conditions.
It is further equipped with a more refined and stylish projector headlamp with LED daytime running light, that helps visibility for both the rider and other road users at any time of day, while the signature X shaped tail lamp greatly enhances the visibility of the machine during night time riding.
The maxi-scooter offers a large storage compartment that is big enough to fit two helmets and is equipped with elevated seating to provide additional comfort for both rider and pillion on long journeys.
The floorboard is dynamically designed for a more flexible foot position that promises better comfort in all types of riding situations.
