Damanlela construction site cluster sees cases spike in KL

THE Klang Valley continues to see an increase in Covid-19 infections following a spike in cases involving the Damanlela construction site cluster.

“The states in the Klang Valley recorded 544 positive cases, of which 484 were from existing clusters.

“The Damanlela construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur (KL) reported the highest number with 385 cases,” Health DG Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in his daily briefing yesterday.

In Sabah, recording only 288 new positive cases, showed the effectiveness of disease control and prevention measures that have been carried out aggressively since the increase in cases there.

Perak, on the other hand, recorded 116 new cases yesterday, an increase of 5.5 times from 21 positive cases the day before. Most of the positive cases came from the Tembok cluster.

A total of 139 cases reported yesterday were related to clusters in prisons, namely the Tembok cluster (111 cases), Matambai cluster (15), Sandakan Prison cluster (4), Seberang Perai Prison cluster (4), Kepayan Prison cluster (2), Rumah Merah cluster (2), and Benteng LD cluster (1).

As of yesterday noon, 1,103 new cases were reported, of which only one was an imported case.

The total number of positive cases in Malaysia is now 48,520, while the total number of active cases is at 12,601.

To date, 102 patients are being treated at the intensive care unit, of which 39 require respiratory assistance. Death toll is now at 313 with four deaths yesterday.

Malaysia also recorded 821 recovered cases, bringing the cumulative number of cases that have fully recovered to 35,606 cases.

Sabah reported the highest number of recovered cases with 372 followed by Selangor with 189 cases.

Dr Noor Hisham announced that the Jeram cluster in Kubang Pasu, Kedah ended yesterday, while a new cluster has been identified in Kota Kinabalu and Penampang, Sabah, known as the Matambai cluster.
