549 arrested for flouting MCO orders

SENIOR Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today said police arrested 549 people on Oct 28 for flouting movement restriction orders.

He said compounds were issued to 547 individuals, while two others were remanded. 

The offences include failure to wear face masks (188), inability to produce supporting documents (154), non-practice of physical distancing (79) and the extension of business hours (34), Ismail Sabri said in a statement.

The police-led task force conducted 46,853 inspections on Wednesday, with 10,960 officials surveying public areas including supermarkets, restaurants, factories, banks and government offices.

Checks were also carried out at 929 land transport terminals, 295 marine terminals and 75 air terminals nationwide. 

The minister said authorities via the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) had also inspected 18 work sites on the same day. CIDB has carried out 12,937 checks on 7,761 construction sites in total since April.

Meanwhile, a total of 9,523 individuals are currently undergoing mandatory quarantine in 65 hotels and 17 public training institutes nationwide. 

He said between July 24 to October 27, a total of 56,699 individuals have returned to Malaysia from various countries. Out of the figure, 381 individuals have been sent to the hospital for treatment, while 46,795 have been discharged and allowed to return to their homes.
