MALAYSIA reported the highest number of Covid-19 recoveries, with 409 patients discharged from hospitals yesterday.

Health DG Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brought the total number of recovered cases in the country to 12,014, or 66.3% of total cases.

“Kedah had the highest Covid-19 recoveries at 226, followed by Sabah (111), Selangor (50), Terengganu (8), Johor (7), Negri Sembilan (6) and Pahang (1),” he said in his Covid-19 press conference yesterday.

However, new positive cases were still high with 589 cases recorded yesterday, involving 586 local transmissions and three imported cases.

Of the local cases, 304 cases were detected in Sabah, followed by 150 in Selangor, 52 in Perak and 31 in Kedah.

The remaining cases were detected in Penang, Negri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur (KL), Labuan, Sarawak, Melaka, Kelantan and Putrajaya.

Dr Noor Hisham noted that a total of 105 new cases were detected in the Utama cluster, which was first reported on Oct 10.

The cluster had been traced in Gombak, Petaling and Hulu Langat in Selangor, and Alor Gajah in Melaka.

To date, there are 132 positive cases in this cluster, involving 107 Malaysians and 25 foreigners.

The new cases yesterday brought the country’s overall total to 18,129. There were 5,945 active Covid-19 cases that were being treated at health facilities nationwide, among which 103 had been placed in the intensive care unit, with 31 requiring respiratory aid.

Three new fatalities were reported in Sabah yesterday, bringing the country’s death tally to 170.

A 100-year-old woman was among the three fatalities. The other two individuals were 54 and 68 years old.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry identified four new Covid-19 clusters yesterday, one each in Sabah, Negri Sembilan, Perak and Labuan.

Dr Noor Hisham said the four new clusters are known as the Olive cluster (Selangor and Sabah), Bah Pengkalan cluster (Perak), Bah Pasir cluster (Putrajaya and Negri Sembilan) and the Saguking cluster (Labuan).

“For the Olive cluster, it was traced in Hulu Langat, Selangor, and Kota Marudu and Penampang, in Sabah.

“The index case was an individual in Selangor who had returned from Sabah, testing positive for Covid-19 on Oct 2. Close contact screenings found 16 others who were infected,” he noted.

For the Bah Pengkalan cluster in Hulu Perak, the index case tested positive for Covid-19 after returning from Sabah on Oct 8. Five more individuals had tested positive through close contact screenings.

Whereas for the Bah Pasir cluster, which was detected in Putrajaya and Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan. It involved a patient who had also travelled to Sabah and tested positive on Oct 8.

So far, 82 individuals linked to this cluster have been screened, with 74 testing negative and three still awaiting test results.
