The Ministry of Health (MOH) today announced the detection of three more clusters namely Bah Sintok cluster and Jeram cluster in Kedah as well as the Bah Tanjung cluster in Terengganu.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the Bah Sintok cluster in Kubang Pasu, Kedah involved the cluster index case which is case number 12072th who is a 23-year-old man who returned from Sabah on September 20.
“The patient was having symptoms such as fever, flu and headache since Sept 22. A COVID-19 screening on Oct 2 on him was positive and he was admitted to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Kedah.
“Following that, close contact screenings were conducted and 11 more positive cases were identified. All positive cases were Malaysians and they were also warded at the same hospital in Kedah,” he said in a statement on the development of the COVID-19 pandemic today.
Dr Noor Hisham said as at noon today, 165 individuals have been screened with 12 found positive, 61 negative while 92 are still waiting for their result.
Meanwhile, the Jeram cluster in Kubang Pasu involved the cluster index case number 11211th who is a 31-year-old local woman.
“The patient was having cough and headache since Sept 25 and was treated at the Tunjang Health Clinic on Sept 28 when the COVID-19 screening was held. The case was found positive on Sept 29 and she was admitted to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.
“Following that, close contact screening was held and three more positive COVID-19 were identified involving health personnel. They were also warded at Sulltanah Bahiyah Hospital for treatment,” he said.
He explained that as at noon today, 65 individuals had been screened and four were found positive, 50 were negative and 11 individuals are still waiting for results.
“The process of decontamination and cleaning at the related health facilities were carried out by the Kubang Pasu health office,” he said.
Apart from that, the Bah Tanjung cluster in Kuala Nerus, Terengganu involved a cluster index case which is case number 11477th who is 46-year-old man.
“ He has the history of travelling to Semporna, Sabah from Sept 10 to 27. The case suffered symptoms such as sore throat and fever since Sept 28. The case was found COVID-19 positive on Sept 30 and was admitted to Hulu Terengganu Hospital in Kuala Berang.
“Following that, close contact screenings were conducted and six more positive COVID-19 cases were found. All positive cases involved Malaysians and the patients were warded in Hulu Terengganu Hospital, Kuala Berang for treatment,” he said.
Dr Noor Hisham said as at noon, 245 individuals had been screened with seven detected positive for COVID-19, 113 negative and 125 are still waiting for results.
However, the sources of infection in the three new clusters are being investigated.
