PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team rider Franco Morbidelli’s (picture) maiden victory in the Czech Republic Grand Prix (GP) at the Brno Circuit on Sunday will be a major boost for him in the upcoming race in Austria.

The Austrian GP will be held at the Red Bull Ring circuit in Spielberg on Aug 16.

Team principal Datuk Razlan Razali said he was delighted with the achievement of the 25-year-old Italian since joining the team last season.

“(His teammate), Fabio Quartararo is struggling with a tyre problem which we didn’t expect at all, but I’m happy that he managed to finish the race in the seventh spot.

“In this regard, our team will review the main problem on his bike and do what we can before the next race in Austria,” said Razlan in a brief video after the race.

Morbidelli, who started in third spot on the grid, posted a time of 41 minutes 44.03 seconds, while the French rider Quartararo clocked in at 41:50.591.

Razlan also praised national Moto2 rider Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah for his improvement in accumulating seven points after finishing ninth out of 25 riders.

He said the achievement will be a major boost to the Openbank Aspar Team Moto2 rider at the Austrian GP. — Bernama
