AirAsia X Bhd carried just 2,291 passengers in the second quarter of 2020 (2Q20) compared to 1.46 million passengers in the same quarter last year, due to flights ferrying cargo with minimal passenger take-up in April 2020.
Capacity (number of seats flown) in 2Q20 also plunged to 6,032 seats from 1.81 million seats in 2Q19.
As such, the airline’s passenger load factor (PLF) fell to 38% from 80% a year ago while available seat kilometres plummeted to 31 million from 8.44 billion in 2Q19.
Revenue passenger kilometres tumbled to 12 million from 6.77 billion previously.
During 2Q20, AirAsia X maintained only minimal operations in supporting the repatriation of travellers as well as freight and cargo services, it said in a statement today.
The total number of sectors flown on charter and cargo basis totalled 146 during the period.
Its Thailand operations recorded a PLF of 82% during the quarter, with seat capacity of 377 and total passengers carried at 309.
