THE National Tech Association of Malaysia (Pikom) will be organising the TECHFEST2020 event as the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) Malaysia this year is rescheduled to 2022.
Pikom will hold TECHFEST2020 together with Road to World Congress on Information Technology Malaysia on Nov 18-20.
Pikom chairman Danny Lee said the association has taken all measures into consideration, and going ahead with WCIT Malaysia this year will not be possible as the nation is still under the Movement Control Order.
“However, we will begin creating a buzz this coming November with TECHFEST2020 Live Broadcast and Road to WCIT Malaysia, with exclusive invitations to decision makers of the tech and innovation sectors.
“It will be a hybrid event combining physical, live broadcast and online, taking place in the beautiful island of Penang,” he said in a statement yesterday.
He added that the promotion of WCIT will be done intensively from then on until the event day, which will also take place in Penang.
This would mark the first in the association’s series of programmes to build the momentum towards hosting the WCIT, TECHFEST2020 and the Road to WCIT Malaysia as it is expected to attract the participation of 4,000 international visionaries, industry captains, government leaders and academics spanning across over 80 countries.
TECHFEST2020 is a three-day digital festival which will feature virtual reality experiences and interactive programmes, featuring insights from industry leaders, showcasing new technology and innovations, as well as sharing stories and documentaries.
The event will also highlight George Town, a Unesco’s World Heritage Site in Penang, and present the Global Information Communication and Technology Excellence Awards by the World Information Technology and Services and Alliance (WITSA).
Pikom will also co-locate its flagship events such as the Leadership Summit, Smart Sourcing Summit and Future of Cybersecurity Summit during the festival, presented in a hybrid of virtual and physical events.
WITSA board member Datuk Sean Seah said the alliance will also be convening its general assembly during the event and participate actively.
“WITSA pledges full support for Pikom to organise TECHFEST2020 and Road to WCIT Malaysia in November.
“The board of WITSA will converge in Malaysia for the assembly on Nov 17, and we thank Pikom for graciously hosting the meeting,” he said.
