DRB-HICOM Bhd provided 40 asnaf families in Taman Puchong Perdana, Selangor, with groceries and food vouchers in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Strategic communications head Mahmood Abd Razak said the contribution was one of the group’s many yearly corporate responsibility initiatives organised to make a positive impact on local communities.
“As a caring corporate group, we feel it is our responsibility to reach out to the adversely impacted groups during these unprecedented times.
“It is also a privilege to be able to help those in need and help spread a little post-Raya cheer to them,” he said in a statement yesterday.
He added that this year’s occasion is even more pressing as the Movement Control Order (MCO) clearly impacted the earning power of some of the recipients.
“The group is glad we can continue to do our small bit in these trying times,” he said.
The company’s initiative was initially planned for carrying out prior to Hari Raya Aidilfitri, but it was pushed back to June 29 to adhere to the MCO.
Prior to the event, 13 Sahabat Support Centre volunteers from the group purchased groceries for each of the family at a nearby supermarket, and had before hand called each head of the families to ensure they received the most needed essentials.
Some of the families had specific dietary needs based on their health conditions, so this communication was key in ensuring each received what they needed from the group’s contribution.
On the presentation day itself, each family received the Aidilfitri contribution of RM150 worth of essential groceries, three packs of Basmathi rice and RM70 worth of Texas Chicken vouchers.
The asnaf communities are among the vulnerable groups that have been severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak.
