TENAGA Nasional Bhd’s (TNB) domestic residential customers are expected to receive detailed statements of the Bantuan Prihatin Elektrik (BPE), which also covers the previous three-month period, in their July billing.

TNB said breakdown of the amount would be attached to the customers’ July bill, which will be mailed within seven days after the month’s meter reading.

“They can also view the statement and bills online via myTNB website and app, 48 hours after receiving the customer notice,” the company said in a statement.

TNB revealed that meter readers will commence readings for the months’ bill at the customers’ premises beginning from today and a notice will be sent out to inform the completion of each reading.

The BPE, announced by the government and TNB on June 20, is an additional aid for 7.66 million customers in the form of free electricity of up to RM231 for the period of the Movement Control Order (MCO) from April to June 2020 and will be reflected in the actual bill.

Similarly, domestic customers who utilise a total sum of electricity between 601kWh and 900kWh per month will also receive a 10% discount from April to September 2020, noting an additional 8% on top of the existing 2% discount rate.

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said in a separate statement yesterday that the government would be extending the discounted electric bill until Dec 31, 2020, for all domestic consumers in both West and East Malaysia.

“With this decision, 7.66 million consumers in the Peninsular Malaysia will continue to enjoy electricity bill discounts between 2% and 50% from Oct 1 to Dec 31, in addition to the electricity discount announced by the prime minister on March 27, 2020, under the Prihatin Economic Stimulus Package.

“This extension also applies to electricity users with usage between 601kWh and 900kWh who started getting a 10% discount under the BPE announced by the government,” he said.

The discount is also applicable to 520,000 consumers in Sabah and 580,000 in Sarawak within the same period.

The three months’ extension for users in the Peninsular Malaysia will be funded by the Kumpulan Wang Industri Elektrik with an estimated budget of RM392 million, whereas the estimated allocation of RM6 million for Sabah and Sarawak will be funded by the Finance Ministry. The total discount from April to December is expected to amount up to RM2.62 billion.
