AS of June this year, the Ministry of Housing and Local Government has approved a total of RM31.7 million in maintenance funds for Penang.
State Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo (picture) today said 75 maintenance projects have been approved under four different federal funds.
He said the sources of all four federal funding are the Housing Maintenance Programme (PPP), Housing Maintenance Fund (TPPM), as well as the two economic stimulus packages announced on Feb 27 and March 27 this year.
“Seven (out of the 75) maintenance projects with a total cost of RM5.25 million were approved under the Prihatin Economic Stimulus Package (PRE Prihatin) since June 1 this year,” he said at a press conference here today.
He also said that the seven projects approved under PRE Prihatin were for the upgrade of 21 lifts in seven out of nine blocks in Rifle Range Flats here.
According to him, the seven blocks where the upgrade works were carried out are Block A, B, C, E, F, G and J, whereas maintenance works on lifts in Block D and H have already been carried out since 2017.
“The upgrading projects for the lifts are currently going on and we expect them to be completed by the end of this year,” he said.
He added that each block consists of three lifts and the upgrading works for each lift cost RM250,000.
Meanwhile, Jagdeep announced that Penang has set a new record for the standard operating procedures (SOPs) compliance rate.
He said as of June 21, the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has checked 166,835 premises in the island to ensure compliance of SOP and recorded a compliance rate of 99.67 per cent.
“On the same day, the SOP compliance rate in the mainland was recorded at 99.25 per cent after MBPP conducted checks in 293,804 premises,” he added.
