PERUSAHAAN Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) sold 7,886 cars in May 2020, bringing its total year-to-date (YTD) sales to 52,920 units.
This gives Perodua a YTD market share of 41% against an estimated YTD total industry volume of 129,401 units, it said in a statement yesterday.
“The ongoing Covid-19 situation has had a significant impact on car sales in Malaysia over the past two months, but we are thankful that in just three weeks since we restarted operations nationwide, we have managed to come close to the level of our March figures pre-Movement Control Order (MCO),” Perodua president and CEO Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad said.
Making up the May sales tally were 2,612 units of Myvi, Axia (2,028), Bezza (1,820), Aruz (950) and Alza (476). The car manufacturer managed to sell 8,601 cars in March before the MCO came into effect on March 18.
