MERCEDES-BENZ Malaysia Sdn Bhd is eyeing to recover its business post-Covid-19 by further reaching out to consumers through digital touchpoints.

President and CEO Dr Claus Weidner said the company has been affected “quite heavily” from the Movement Control Order (MCO) enforced since March 18 to curb the spread of Covid-19.

As the stay-home order has eased and businesses have reopened, he said Mercedes will continue its customer experience strategy via online.

“Recovery for us is under two pillars. One is safeguarding the health and safety of our customers and staff in our operation. We have implemented quite a number of standard operating procedures.

“The other thing is we are going forward to drive our best customer experience strategy coming from a few physical retail organisations in the past towards seamless offline to online offerings, touchpoints and interaction with customers,” Weidner said during a digital premiere of the new Mercedes-AMG compact cars yesterday.

The premium German marque has resumed its retail, after-sales and production in Pekan, Pahang, after the implementation of the Conditional MCO in mid-May.

Mercedes will be introducing new digital approaches in the business, including virtual showroom and test drive experience.

The country’s top premium carmaker launched three new range of Mercedes-AMG compact cars for the local market comprising two hatchbacks, Mercedes-AMG A 35 4MATIC and A 45 S 4MATIC+, and a CLA 45 S 4MATIC+ coupé.

Mercedes said the demand for compact models has been increasing in recent years and the latest models are targeted to reach the youngest AMG clientele.

The Mercedes-AMG A 35 4MATIC is equipped with two-litre four cylinder turbo engines that generate 225kW output (306hp) and 400Nm of torque.

With its AMG Speedshift DCT 7G transmission, the hatchback can go from a standstill to 100kph in 4.7 seconds and could hit a top speed of 250kph.

In the 45 models, the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4MATIC+, and CLA 45 S 4MATIC+ are powered by two-litre four cylinder turbo engines that produce 310kW (421hp) with a 270kph top speed under an eight-speed transmission.

The A 45 S 4MATIC+, and the coupé model accelerate from zero to 100kph in 3.9 seconds and four seconds respectively.

“We have completely redesigned our AMG models — from the engine and transmission through the chassis, the elaborately constructed drivetrain to the body structure and of course the design itself — all with one goal: To raise vehicle dynamics and the sporty driving experience to a level previously unimaginable in the compact class,” sales and marketing VP Michael Jopp said during the virtual launch.

The Mercedes-AMG A 35 4MATIC is tagged at RM379,888 of recommended retail price, while the A 45 S 4MATIC+ and CLA 45 S 4MATIC+ are priced at RM459,888 and RM448,888 respectively.
