UNIVERSITI Malaysia Kelantan former vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Husaini Omar (picture) is appointed as the new chief executive officer of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) effective today.
The MQA said, in a statement today, that Husaini, who is also a Geology Engineer, took over from Datuk Prof Emeritius Dr Rahmah Mohamed whose service contract had ended.
“The MQA offers its effusive congratulations him on his appointment. MQA is confident that he can inject the aspirations needed by the agency to drive MQA’s transformation towards achieving its vision as a global agency in the qualification and quality assurance of higher education,” the agency said.
In addition to his eight years of experience as a geological engineer, Husaini has also published more than 200 publications in the form of journals, proceedings, books and technical reports from his researches.
The Kelantan-born is also a recipient of the National Young Scientist and National Youth Awards and a gold medalist for the International Technology Expo; World Intellectual Property Organisation’s Geneva; and the Invention and New Product Exposition (INPEX) of the United States.
He was also an international panel of judges for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel-ISEF) in the United States from 2002 to the present and is Chairman of the Intel-ISEF Scientific Review Committee of Malaysia for the Mara Junior Science College.
In addition, Husaini is also a fellow of the ‘The Geological Society of London’ and a Member of the International Association of Engineering Geology, Paris.
He also previously held the post of deputy vice-chancellor (Research and Innovation) of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), the UPM Faculty of Engineering deputy dean and UPM Holdings managing director.
