GLCs play important role in formulating economic strategies

PM’s appointment as Khazanah chairman to take effect immediately

GOVERNMENT-LINKED companies (GLCs) play important roles in helping the government to formulate comprehensive economic strategies during and after the Movement Control Order (MCO), said Prime Minister (PM) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (picture).

Muhyiddin made the revelation at his office in Perdana Putra during a video conference with Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and six leading GLCs on matters related to the country’s economy.

“I have also asked the GLCs to play a more proactive role and to be an example to other companies or industries in implementing corporate social responsibility (CSR) to help the rakyat cope with the difficulties during the Covid-19 outbreak,” he said in a statement after the video conference.

Those in the video conference were Employees Provident Fund CEO Tunku Alizakri Raja Muhammad Alias, Permodalan Nasional Bhd CEO Abdul Jalil Rasheed and Khazanah Nasional Bhd MD Datuk Shahril Ridzuan, Retirement Fund Incorporated CEO Syed Hamadah Syed Othman, Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera CEO Nik Amlizan Mohamed and Lembaga Tabung Haji CEO Datuk Nik Mohd Hasyudeen.

Meanwhile, the Finance Ministry (MoF) has announced Muhyiddin’s appointment as Khazanah chairman.

In a statement yesterday, MoF said Tengku Zafrul as well as Datuk Mohammed Azlan Hashim have been appointed as its new board members too.

All appointments will take immediate effect, it said.
