As the world moves ever forward, so do our customers, each with their own unique characters, personalities and lives, says Izham

MALAYSIA Airlines Bhd (MAB) has extended its economy class flexible fare options to destinations in the Asean and South Asia regions effective today.

The flexible fare, previously available only for domestic destinations, allows passengers to enjoy premium travel and the full-service carrier experience, with three unique fare options (Lite, Basic, Flex) that can be chosen based on their nature of travel, preference and needs.

MAB group CEO Captain Izham Ismail said: “As the world moves ever forward, so do our customers, each with their own unique characters, personalities and lives. As such, Malaysia Airlines endeavours to always stay ahead of the curve to offer only the best service and fares to our passengers worldwide.

“I believe the fares we introduce today will create a more personalised and enjoyable booking experience coupled with unrivalled Malaysian hospitality onboard, to create truly seamless, intuitive and stress-free travels to be enjoyed by our loyal passengers.”

Customers can decide what they want rather than simply buy what an airline offers, while enjoying the privileges and services that Malaysia Airlines offers onboard across all fares, such as cabin baggage of up to 7kg, complimentary meals and refreshments, as well as access to the in-flight-entertainment system.

Following customer feedback and understanding how passengers travel, the Flex fare aims to provide unmatchable flexibility in their travels, with 30kg of check-in baggage.

Additionally, passengers may also enjoy the opportunity to travel earlier on the day of travel, subject to availability. They can also change travel dates, get refunds and rebooking entitlements.

The Basic fare provides the opportunity for the everyday traveller to enjoy the full-service carrier experience, with 20kg of free check-in baggage. Passengers also have the chance to enjoy Enrich benefits, like Enrich Miles upgrades, giving them an opportunity to try the business class experience.

Alongside the Flex and Basic Fares, the Lite Fare caters specifically to day-trippers, business travellers and commuters. With time of the essence, passengers only need the essentials, rendering check-in baggage only more of a hassle than a boon. This fare creates a fast and efficient experience for passengers who want to make the most of their travels and wish to get to their destination seamlessly and without inconvenience.

Passengers on the existing shuttle-eligible routes, namely the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore-Kuala Lumpur route, will alternatively have three fare brands, which would be the Lite and Basic fares, in addition to the Shuttle fare.

Launched in December 2019, the Shuttle fare is specially catered to seasoned and regular passengers who make multiple trips on the route and desire more flexibility in their travel plans. Passengers booked on this fare brand will receive all benefits of the Flex brand fare and more, with a larger check-in baggage allowance of 35kg and priority check in at dedicated counters.

The introduction of the flexible fare options will affect bookings for travels made today onwards, with bookings made before that time being unaffected by the changes made.
