Selangor expects 12,000 people at CNY open house

The celebration, to be held in Dataran PJ on Feb 1, is to garner the multiracial spirit among Malaysians

THE Selangor government is expecting to draw in 12,000 visitors at the state’s Chinese New Year (CNY) open house next month.

The celebration, which will be held in Dataran Petaling Jaya on Feb 1, hopes to garner the multi-racial spirit among Malaysians. The feasting is expected to kick-off at 6.30pm until 10.30pm.

The open house will be attended by Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and his wife, members of the Selangor State Executive Council (excos), chiefs of divisions, embassy representatives and Selangor residents.

Selangor Investment, Industry and Commerce, Small and Medium Enterprises and Transport exco and standing committee chairman Datuk Teng Chang Khim said the celebration will be jointly organised by Invest Selangor Bhd.

The event is also being co-organised by the Office of the Secretary of the Government, Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), Tourism Selangor Sdn Bhd, Hijrah Selangor and other state agencies.

Selangor residents will be entertained by a series of performances, including cultural dances, Chinese musical and lion dances. The event will also be keeping the tradition alive by giving “angpow” to children under 12 years with the distribution of mandarin oranges to all.

The public will also have the opportunity to enjoy foods from 28 stalls set up in collaboration with Selangor Hijrah for the CNY celebration. Among the foods that will be served are turmeric fried rice, Chinese fried rice, fried noodles, “Roti John”, vermicelli soup, yong tau fu and many more.

The public is encouraged to use public transportation to reach the event where MBPJ is providing a total of 20 free shuttle bus services with the existing PJ City Bus from several stations to accommodate the traffic.

The city council will also provide 3,709 parking spots in seven locations to accommodate those who are driving to the event.
