Nestlé Malaysia brings senior citizens Chinese New Year cheer

AS part of its commitment to positively impact communities in need, Nestlé (M) Bhd recently feted 33 senior citizens of En Yuan Old Folks Home in Kampung Tunku, Petaling Jaya, with an early Chinese New Year treat.

There was much excitement as a group of more than 30 Nestlé volunteers brightened up the home with colourful Chinese New Year décor before entertaining the residents with festive performances and activities.

In keeping with Chinese New Year traditions, there was a lively lion dance and a yee sang toss to ring in the new year.

As the evening drew to a close, the senior citizens enjoyed a delectable tea-time spread.

Nestlé Malaysia group corporate affairs ED Nirmalah Thurai said: “Our team is honoured to volunteer their time to usher in the Chinese New Year with the residents of En Yuan Old Folks Home and share the joy of the season.

“We remain committed to contributing to the wellbeing of the community and positively impacting the lives of those around us.”

En Yuan Old Folk Home secretary Stanley Yap said the residents were delighted to celebrate Chinese New Year in the comfort of their home, as many of them are unable to travel or are without family.

“We would like to thank Nestlé Malaysia for taking the time to organise this special event,” he added.

As an added treat, the residents of the home were each presented with a Chinese New Year Prosperity Bag which included various Nestlé goodies, along with mandarin oranges and angpows.

Nestlé Malaysia also provided contributions worth RM31,088 to the home, which included a cash contribution of RM10,000 to aid with expenses and products such as Nescafe, Nestum and Nutren.

The Chinese New Year celebration was part of Nestlé Malaysia’s employee volunteer initiative, Nestlé Cares. The programme aims to instil a culture of volunteerism among employees, in line with Nestlé SA’s vision of enhancing the quality of life.
