Pos Malaysia reveals Year of the Rat stamp collection

POS Malaysia Bhd launched its first festive stamp collection for 2020, in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY), the Year of the Rat.

Rat represents wisdom and is seen as a sign of wealth and abundance.

People born in the Year of the Rat are said to be quick-witted, positive and full of energy. They get along well with others, instinctive, adaptable and smart.

Pos Malaysia embodies these qualities through the “Year of the Rat” Setem Ku stamp collection, available to collectors and stamp enthusiasts from today across 13 general post offices and 13 selected post offices nationwide.

Pos Malaysia group CEO Syed Md Najib Syed Md Noor said the new stamp collection marks the start of a new cycle for Pos Malaysia’s zodiac stamp series, as rat is the first animal sign in the Chinese zodiac cycle.

“The limited edition Year of the Rat stamp collection is one of a kind and will be a unique and meaningful souvenir or gift during the festive season. It is our sincere hope that the Year of the Rat brings everyone prosperity, peace, good luck and much joy,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The overall concept of the design focuses on Chinese motifs, patterns and elements with a modern touch, such as the application of colour blocking technique and vibrant colours.

Pos Malaysia is producing 3,888 pieces of folder sets and loose Setem Ku sheets for this collection. The Setem Ku sheet comes in 10 different designs featuring Chinese characters “shu” (rat) and “fu” (prosperity), priced at RM25 per sheet. To complete their collection, customers are encouraged to purchase a complete folder set at RM38 which consists of a stamp sheet, three pieces of souvenir covers, two pieces of postcards and a folder.

The folder set features an illustration of the rat and the character “fu”. For avid collectors, an exclusive cancellation mark of Chinese character “shu” is also available on the day of the issuance, completing the aesthetics of the collection.

The CNY rat-themed stamp series is also available via Pos Malaysia’s online store, www.eziemall.com under the “Stamps & Collectibles” link.
