LOW-COST carrier AirAsia Group Bhd joined the fixed low fares bandwagon with its new special late-night flights between the Peninsular and East Malaysia this Chinese New Year (CNY).
Malaysians travelling during late-night flights from Jan 21 to 31 will be entitled to special fixed low fares.
Flights from Kuala Lumpur (KL) to Sibu, Bintulu and Miri, as well as from Johor Baru to Sibu will cost RM149 one-way (all-in-fares) and from KL to Sandakan and Tawau at only RM199 one-way.
In addition to the late-night flights to Sabah and Sarawak, AirAsia will also add extra flights to 20 popular routes across Malaysia and Singapore.
The routes include from KL to Langkawi, Penang, Sibu, Tawau and Singapore; from Alor Setar to Johor Baru; from Kota Kinabalu to KL, Johor Baru, Penang and Tawau; from Ipoh to Johor Baru and Singapore; from Johor Baru to Kuching, Miri, Sibu and Tawau; from Kuching to KL, Sibu and Singapore; and from Penang to Singapore.
AirAsia Malaysia CEO Riad Asmat said the additional late-night flights to East Malaysia will add 12,960 seats at fixed low fares, while extra flights to popular routes across Malaysia and Singapore will see 65,826 additional seats.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said with this initiative, AirAsia continues to support the government in bringing down fares during festive seasons and increase the convenience of flying for the people, especially students who are residing in East Malaysia.
The low-cost carrier is also offering an 88% discount (only applicable to base fares) for all destinations such as from KL to Penang, Langkawi, Kuantan, Lake Toba, Jakarta, Singapore, Surat Thani, Bangkok and more.
The promotion is from Jan 6 to 12 for travel between Jan 6 and Aug 31.
On Monday, national carrier Malaysia Airlines Bhd also announced that it is offering fixed flat fares on all economy class seats to domestic destinations until Feb 3.
Dubbed “The Fú Fixed Fare Festival”, the deal is applicable to more than 600 domestic flights, giving more options for customers to plan their travel within the CNY period.
Customers will be able to enjoy all-inclusive (one-way) domestic MH Lite Economy fixed fares for departures from KL to Penang, Langkawi, Johor Baru, Kota Baru, Terengganu, Alor Setar and Kuantan at RM129.
For the same price, customers will be able to purchase flights between Kota Kinabalu and Tawau; Kuching and Kota Kinabalu; Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan; and Kuching and Miri.
