TENAGA Nasional Bhd (TNB) shared its prosperity with the homeless recently in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Ipoh, Johor Baru and Kota Baru.
Giving back to the homeless is TNB’s latest initiative, on top of various charitable programmes for the needy including education funding and school necessities for children, food distribution and home improvements.
On Nov 29, around 300 homeless people in Kuala Lumpur gathered at the homeless transit centre in Jalan Pahang to receive aids in the forms of food supplies, daily needs like water bottles, food containers, bags, some pocket money and haircut services.
TNB president/CEO Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan (picture) and his wife Datin Seri Aidah Abu officiated the aids distribution, which evidently cheered the recipients.
The programme was organised by Persatuan Kebajikan Pekerja Islam (PKPI) TNB and Kelab Jabatan Perkhidmatan Keselamatan TNB with the support of the National Welfare Foundation (YKN), the operator of the transit centre. At the event, TNB also contributed RM10,000 to YKN to aid them in the centre’s operations.
Also present were TNB chief ventures officer cum PKPI president Datuk Nor Azman Mufti; career enhancement management head of department and PKPI VP Datuk Ir Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid; Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Nor Hisham A Dahlan; YKN CEO Datin Paduka Che Asmah Ibrahim and security services head of department Sobri Shafie.
TNB has been collaborating with YKN in a number of corporate social responsibility programmes including the “Better Brighter Anjung Kasih” programme, accommodation for family members of the Serdang Hospital and Melaka Hospital patients; breakfast distribution during Ramadhan at Anjung Singgah Kuala Lumpur, an intervention centre for the homeless and the contribution of haemodialysis machines to YKN Lembah Pantai by Pelitawanis TNB.
