INDAH Water Konsortium (IWK) Sdn Bhd recently organised the “IWK 2Five Run” at Pantai Eco Park, Pantai Dalam, Kuala Lumpur, in commemoration of its 25 years in service.
This programme was one of IWK’s initiatives to strengthen its relationship with stakeholders especially the residents in the Pantai Dalam area.
The race was flagged off by Water, Land and Natural Resources (KATS) Minister Datuk Dr Xavier Jayakumar.
About 500 attendees comprised IWK staff, representatives of agencies within KATS and Pantai Dalam residents participated in the event. There were also recreational activities hosted for families at the park.
During the ceremony, Dr Xavier also planted a type of forest tree species to launch IWK’s mini urban forest project, “Khazanah Rimba.”
IWK’s Khazanah Rimba project is situated in Pantai Eco Park, spanning an area of about one acre (0.40ha).
A variety of 52 forest trees were identified for cultivation such as Tualang, Gapis, Kempas and Bitangor.
The project was hosted in collaboration with the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia, which has evaluated the land in the park and identified suitable forest trees.
The Khazanah Rimba project demonstrates the usage of fertilisers-produced after the sewage treatment process-in the planting of forest tree. At the same time, bio-effluent or treated water after the sewage treatment process will be used to grow the forest trees.
IWK CEO Narendran Maniam said the mini urban forest will transform the Pantai Dalam area into a focal point for townspeople to identify and enjoy the lush greenery.
In addition to leisure activities, IWK also collected donations from staff that were donated to families in need of help for school preparation next year. Also present was IWK chairman Amiruddin Abdul Aziz.
