NUR Fatimah Mustapha and Abu Raman Jamin have emerged as the stars of Labuan in the recent Sabah Wushu Championship 2019.
Nur Fatimah won two golds in the women’s Taolu, while Abu Raman won one in the men’s Taolu to help Labuan finish second runner-up in the championship last Sunday with a total of three golds, five silvers and three bronzes.
Musimar Mustapha and Mohammad Sulaiman Jamin won a silver in the women’s and men’s Sanda event respectively, while Mohammad Fadzli Kishen and Brandon Wong Jun Jie won a silver each in men’s Taolu and Rahimah Ibrahim, a silver in women’s Taolu.
The bronzes came from Jainal Rajeeve Joenas, Rahimah Ibrahim and Clarence Leong Kai Hang in the Taolu category.
“It was a remarkable improvement as a result of hard training for several months,” said Labuan Wushu Association honorary secretary Tan Chee.
He said Labuan had sent nine athletes to compete in their first-ever state championship.
The Sabah Wushu Championship attracted 90 athletes from Sandakan, Kota Kinabalu and Labuan.
“We have achieved good results this time, and we can say we have reached our goal. However, there is still room for improvement because most of our athletes competed for the first time,” he said.
