MALAYSIA Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is expected to strengthen students’ skills in information and communications technology (ICT) with the enhancement of its lab at the Serendah National Development Skills Centre (PPKKS) in Selangor.
Known as “Digital Space”, MAHB chairman Tan Sri Zainun Ali said the lab is a continuity of the airport operator’s corporate and social responsibility (CSR) programme called “Beyond Borders”.
She said the Digital Space initiative would carry the same vision of Beyond Borders in improving students’ capability in ICT and proficiency in the English language.
She added that 13 computers will be placed at the ICT lab to benefit over 50 students at PPKKS.
“MAHB agreed to renovate and upgrade the computer lab, allowing the technology and innovation-based learning to be enhanced.
“This will provide PPKKS students with a greater opportunity to improve their skills and strive for a brighter future,” Zainun said at the launch of Digital Space.
The launch was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also the women, family and community development (KPWKM) minister.
Digital Space was formed with the collaboration between MAHB and the Social Welfare Department, an agency under KPWKM. MAHB adopted over 30 schools nationwide since Beyond Borders’ inception in 2007.
The programme was designed to raise awareness on the importance of education and character buil-ding, and to assist underprivileged students to improve their literacy in the English language.
Zainun said the programme now includes innovation and technology, in tandem with MAHB’s direction as the country’s leading airport operator.
She added that MAHB will continue to enhance the CSR programme to support the development of education, youth leadership, community empowerment and branding of Malaysia.
“Hopefully, the Digital Space can help empower PPKKS students in elevating their skills and achieve success in the future,” Zainun said.
