The awards are recognition of the company’s efforts towards achieving excellence as it works towards delivering the KVMRT project
MASS Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has emerged victorious in two awards which were presented in the past two weeks, recognising the company’s efforts towards achieving excellence as it works towards delivering the Klang Valley MRT (KVMRT) project.
The first is the Best Major Project (Infrastructure Category) in the Malaysian Construction Industry Excellence Awards (MCIEA) 2019 for its Sungai Buloh Depot, while the second is the Silver Excellence Award in the Employer Excellence Award 2019.
The MCIEA, an annual award organised by Malaysia’s Construction Industry Development Board, saw MRT Corp’s MRT Maintenance Depot in Sungai Buloh, the biggest depot in South-East Asia, winning the top prize in the Major Project (Infrastructure Category).
The award recognised the construction of the Sungai Buloh Depot as having demonstrated overall excellence in project implementation, which included safety and health practices, benefit to the society and nation, consideration on maintenance, asset and facility management, and workmanship and quality of construction works.
MRT Corp received the award as the depot’s owner together with Trans Resources Corp Sdn Bhd as its work package contractor, MMC Gamuda KVMRT (PDP) Sdn Bhd as the project delivery partner, Produktif Sepakat Consulting Engineers Sdn Bhd as the civil and structure consultant, Perunding Alam Bina Sdn Bhd as the architect, Aecom Perunding Sdn Bhd as the mechanical and electrical engineering consultant and KPK Quantity Surveyor (Semenanjung) Sdn Bhd as the quantity surveyor.
MRT Corp CEO Abdul Yazid Kassim received the award for MRT Corp during the MCIEA 2019 ceremony which was held on Oct 4, 2019, at W Hotel, Kuala Lumpur (KL). The award was presented by the Deputy Minister of Works Mohd Anuar Mohd Tahir.
The second award, which was presented on Oct 8, 2019, at the inaugural Malaysian Employers Federation’s (MEF) Employer Excellence Award 2019, saw MRT Corp as one of the five winners of the Silver Excellence Award.
The award was held in conjunction with the Malaysian Employers Federation’s 60th Anniversary. Held at the Holiday Villa Hotel and Conference Centre Subang, Subang Jaya, the award was presented by Human Resources Minister M Kulasegaran. Abdul Yazid again received the award on behalf of MRT Corp.
The MEF’s Excellence Award recognises the recipients for their compliance to the Malaysia Employment Act 1955 and the additional benefits that they have provided to their employees.
Commenting on the achievements, Abdul Yazid said it was a proud moment for MRT Corp, as these two awards not only recognised the organisation’s excellence in managing the KVMRT project as entrusted to the company as the project owner, but also for its excellence in managing people: MRT Corp’s human capital.
“When the people in our organisation are happy, this will inadvertently be translated into the work that they deliver, and as the country’s largest infrastructure project, MRT Corp strives for excellence and aims to set standards for various aspects of the construction industry in Malaysia,” he said, adding that MRT Corp was honoured to have the KVMRT project recognised for a second time for its efforts in contributing to the construction industry in Malaysia.
“Our efforts in going above and beyond the usual practice and setting standards in various aspects of the construction industry in Malaysia have once again been recognised. This will encourage us to continue striving to be the best, while moving towards delivering the KVMRT project on time and within cost,” said Abdul Yazid.
The KVMRT project was also named Best Project in the Major Infrastructure Project category in 2017 for Phase One of the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line.
