TWO incoming flights had to return to base after failing to land at the Penang International Airport following worsening visibility due to haze.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) senior manager Mohd Nadzim Hashim said the flights were from Kuala Lumpur and Kuala Namu in Medan.
He said visibility was now 1.5km, while the visual range for the runway was 1.7km.
He said another flight from Singapore had to be rerouted to Medan while a flight from Bangkok had to be delayed.
However, there have been no flight cancellations so far.
Meanwhile, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in a statement today said that classes had been postponed due to the unhealthy API level recorded here.
The statement said that the daily operations of USM office would continue as usual while outdoor activities are prohibited.
“Students and staff are urged to refer to USM website www.pusatsejahtera.usm.my or call 04-653 4948 for further information, ” the statement said.
