PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team duo Fabio Quartararo (picture) and Franco Morbidelli put up a brilliant ride — finishing in second and fifth place respectively — in the San Marino and Rimini’s Coast Grand Prix (GP) at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Italy on Sunday.
Quartararo who began third in the starting grid, posted a time of 42mins 26.066secs, while Morbidelli finished with 42 mins 37.937secs in the 27-lap race.
The victory saw Quartararo clinch his fourth podium finish, having secured a second place in the Catalunya GP and third-place in the Dutch GP, and in the Austria GP the 20-year-old French rookie claimed a third-place finish.
Spain’s Marc Marquez of Repsol Honda Team, who is the reigning world champion, captured his seventh victory this season after clocking in at 42:25.163s, while fellow Spaniard, Maverick Vinales of Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP came in third with a time of 42:26.799s, according to the MotoGP website at www.motogp.com.
Earlier, Petronas Sprinta Racing Moto3 rider, John McPhee claimed his third podium finish this season coming in third place in the 23-lap race.
The 25-year-old Briton who started in 14th place in the starting grid, dropped to 18th for a while after avoiding two minor accidents during the race, but managed to find his tempo before riding his way to second-place, in the final lap of the race.
His teammate, Ayumu Sasaki of Japan, however, failed to finish the race after getting involved in an accident with three other riders in the opening lap. For the record, McPhee clinched victory in the French GP, besides finishing in third at the Austria GP.
