RAPID Rail Sdn Bhd staff who will be working on Malaysia Day will be wearing their very own sarong ensemble in an initiative known as the ‘Sarong Train 19’ to promote national unity.

Prasarana Malaysia Bhd COO Nizam Alias said today that Rapid KL supports the event organised by Local Companion (LOCCO) which uses the sarong cloth to symbolise solidarity among Malaysians from all walks of life.

“As a platform that caters to hundreds of thousands of city dwellers every day, regardless of race, religion, or position, the choice to use the public transportation system for this programme is just right.

“Malaysia Day is a very important day and should be commemorated in large measure in remembrance of the greatness of our country and its united people,” he said in a statement.

The company’s infrastructure handles over 1.2 million passengers a day for all its public transport networks with over 700,000 rail passengers in the city of Kuala Lumpur through the LRT, MRT and monorail services.

LOCCO first held the event in 2012, setting up Malaysian children to congregate certain stations to take Rapid KL trains to reach their destinations.

Various activities that are incorporated include singing patriotic songs, poetry recital and dancing while raising the Malaysian flag.

These activities are recorded and widely circulated through social media to spread the message of harmony among all Malaysians.

Sarong Train 19 is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC).

Five stations were selected for the event Kajang MRT Station, Bandar Utama MRT Station, Gombak LRT Station, Subang LRT Station, and Ampang LRT Station.

Participants will take the train from these stations at 9am to the Pasar Seni integration station and from there, they will move together to the location of the rally which will only be announced on the day of the event.

Rapid KL added that participants and those who are interested in the event are encouraged to use My100 travel passes and Touch ‘n Go cards to enjoy a smooth journey.
