Shopee’s 9.9 Super Shopping Day exceeds all expectations

At its peak, 187,606 items were sold in a minute and provided free shipping for purchases of a minimum of RM9

SHOPEE finished its 9.9 Super Shopping Day with three times the number of orders, breaking its previous record in 2018.

Shopee regional MD Ian Ho (picture) said the company is proud to see its signature shopping event becoming an important date in the region’s online shopping calendar with over 113 million deals offered.

“Due to its continued growth and success, offline and online retailers, as well as other online shopping sites, have caught on with the 9.9 fever.

“We are thankful for their incredible support in giving the best to our consumers,” he said in a statement.

The leading e-commerce platform in South-East Asia generated an overwhelming response with top-performing brands recording an average of 6,780 times increase in traffic and 400-fold growth in sales.

Among the most popular brands were Mr DIY, Mydin, Nestle, Vivo, Vinda, Maybelline and Carlo Rino.

At its peak, 187,606 items were sold in a minute and provided free shipping with a minimum purchase of RM9.

Best-selling items included wireless earphones, sneakers, smartphones, pressure cookers, electric ovens, bedding and towels, motor vehicle oil filters and Milo.

This year’s edition of 9.9 Super Shopping Day saw the company exceeding all expectations as well as hitting new milestones with more brands, sellers, and partners joining Shopee for the online shopping event.

Shopee said its popular in-app features such as Shopee Live continued to attract users over the entire 9.9 Super Shopping Day period, garnering around 50 million views.

The mega sale had a successful start by penning its partnership with brand ambassador Cristiano Ronaldo, whose first television commercial with Shopee is a global hit with 35 million views online to date, as the football icon’s Shopee Dance performance trended worldwide.

Besides, Shopee brought users and fans closer to Ronaldo with its live-streaming feature, Shopee Live.

On Aug 28, Shopee Live brought all users to Italy for an exclusive live-stream with the football icon, who tackled various questions from fans in the region and even delivered a special performance of the Shopee Dance.

During the countdown to 9.9 Super Shopping Day on Sept 8, Shopee users also enjoyed an exclusive broadcast of an interview with Ronaldo on Shopee Live.

Additionally, the popular e-commerce platform has a collection of in-app games such as Goyang Shopee and Shopee Quiz that were played millions of times.

The company added that it is preparing to serve more value to its users, sellers and partners in the coming months by introducing better features and offers.
