AFTER much anticipation, Taylor Swift announced the romantic “Lover” while accepting her Icon Award at the Teen Choice Award on Aug 11.

The old-school ballad, which was co-produced by Jack Antonoff, sees Swift taking comfort in a romantic relationship.

Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco and Swift perform ‘Me!’

“Can I go where you go?/ Can we always be this close forever and ever?/ And ah, take me out, and take me home/ You’re my, my, my, my lover,” she sings in the chorus over a ‘60s- influenced beat filled with tambourine and a booming snare.

The pop singer also revealed that the accompanying music video will arrive today during a YouTube live event.

“We’re going to talk all things ‘Lover’,” Swift teased in an Instagram video, adding that she’ll do “a performance of a song (she’s) never performed before”.

“Lover” is the fourth song to be released off her upcoming new album, following “Me!”, “You Need to Calm Down” and “The Archer”.

“Lover”, which will be Swift’s seventh studio album, marks her first release at new label Republic Records. The singer was previously with Big Machine for over a decade, but they parted ways earlier this year.

Later this year, Taylor Swift will also star in the live-action film adaptation of the musical “Cats”, alongside Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, Rebel Wilson, Judi Dench and Idris Elba. — AFP
