MALINDO Air OD171 made its inaugural flight to Sydney, Australia, last Thursday.
Carrying a total of 141 passengers, including Malindo Air CEO Chandran Rama Muthy, it departed from the Kuala Lumpur (KL) International Airport at 10.30pm last Wednesday with a one-hour stopover in Denpasar (Bali).
The passengers received a warm welcome upon landing by Sydney Airport Management with souvenirs giveaway and a special appearance of a Koala mascot at the arrival gate. Flight OD172 from Sydney to KL, via Denpasar was sent off at 12pm.
As passengers checked in, they were presented with exclusive cupcakes branded with Malindo Air logo and celebratory gift bags, and entertained by the Indonesian Gamelan Orchestra, creating a Balinese ambience in the Sydney International Airport.
Chandran said the Malindo Air team was thrilled to add the much-anticipated harbour city, Sydney, to its network.
“We believe this connection will attract both business and leisure travellers alike, wherein it is foreseen to enhance greater passengers’ traffic while promoting the local eco-tourism.
“There is a strong market on consumer trade between Malaysia and Sydney, hence this new route is likely to encourage many business travellers, given the strategic flight timings and a seamless journey, whereas in view of leisure prospects, it is undeniable that this city has much attractions to offer, including rich culinary arts, thrilling adventures and, of course, significant monuments such as the iconic Opera House, which was previously recognised as one of the Wonders of the World,” he said.
“Our passengers have always enjoyed the comfortable legroom and the business-class option that we offer.
“We look forward to exploring more frequencies to and from Sydney in the near future.”
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd CEO Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin welcomed Malindo Air’s new service from KL to Sydney via Denpasar.
“With this fifth addition to the airline’s Australia route, we hope that it will further augment connectivity for both Malaysia and Australia.
“This new route is sure to attract business and leisure travellers. But above all, we applaud Malindo Air for their active pursuit in establishing routes into Australia, which will boost passenger traffic especially with the upcoming Visit Malaysia 2020,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Special Staff of the Indonesian Tourism Minister Judi Rifajantoro gave appreciation to Malindo Air for opening this route.
“Accessibility is very important to support foreign tourist arrivals and we thank Malindo Air for this new route initiative.
“To the Sydneysiders joining this flight, I wish them an enjoyable flight and trust they enjoy the beauty of Bali,” he said.
