NATIONAL carmaker Proton Holdings Bhd has announced 12 teams from universities and polytechnics that will compete in the final round of its marketing competition called “Intelligence that Inspires Challenge”.

Proton CEO Dr Li Chunrong said such a competition is vital as the company believes that the identification of the next business leaders, who will help lead Malaysia’s economic future, is a priority.

“We also want to give graduates from Malaysian universities an opportunity to showcase their talents on a national level and demonstrate the skill sets that have been taught in these institutions.

“Regardless of whether they win or lose, the company hopes that all participants will walk away with a better appreciation of what it takes to excel in a real working environment and hopefully, they will also become fans of the Proton brand,” he said in a statement recently.

The event, to be held at the Proton Centre of Excellence on July 29, will see competing teams presenting their marketing case studies to judges — comprising the company’s senior management, marketing experts and members of the media.

The teams are required to do a presentation to replicate a marketing pitch. They will be judged on their creativity, presentation skills, originality and their viability in a real-life setting.

The real-life setting factor adds up to create a sense of practicality in the competitors’ ideas on budget limitations, manpower and buyer behaviour.

According to Proton, the participating teams are Politeknik Port Dickson, Politeknik Kota Kinabalu, Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah in Behrang, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Xiamen University Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, Multimedia University, Taylor’s University and DRB-Hicom University of Automotive Malaysia.

Each team will consist of a leader, team members and a member of the faculty as a tutor.
