PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd (PetDag) contributed more than RM90,000 to the paediatric wards of six chosen hospitals.

They are Hospital Ampang, Kuala Lumpur; Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II, Kelantan; Hospital Besar Pulau Pinang; Hospital Besar Melaka; Hospital Sibu, Sarawak; and Hospital Wanita & Kanak-Kanak, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Each hospital received RM15,000 along with goodie bags for the children warded there.

The initiative was part of PetDag’s “Small Change Goes the Distance” campaign organised in conjunction with the previous months of Ramadhan up to Syawal from May 28 to June 28, 2019.

PetDag will donate one sen for every RM1 purchase made by customers at Petronas stations’ Kedai Mesra nationwide during this period.

At the first handover ceremony at Hospital Ampang, PetDag’s head of retail business Khalil Muri said the company makes it a point to give back to the less privileged community every Ramadhan.

“This was the first time that we reached out to hospitals with the hope that our contribution will help ease their expenses and bring joy to the children.

“We want to also thank our customers for supporting this cause. Indeed, small change does go the distance,” he added.

PetDag also refurbishes the ward’s ‘Play and Learn’ corner with new furniture, books and toys

Additionally, PetDag also refurbished the ward’s “Play and Learn” corner with new furniture, books and toys.

The area is instrumental in facilitating play-therapy sessions, a method used to help children cope with the stress of being hospitalised.

The makeover will also be replicated across all the chosen hospitals under this campaign.

Hospital Ampang deputy MD Mohamed Fauzi Mohamed Hanafiah said one of the hospital’s priorities is to improve existing facilities for the betterment of its patients, especially the children.

“This is a challenge to the hospital management as our resources are limited.

“Hence, we are very thankful to Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) for choosing us as the first hospital to be the beneficiary of this cause,” Mohamed Fauzi said.

“This indeed is a great help to the hospital,” he added.

During the campaign, customers were also encouraged to donate books to the drop-off points at selected Petronas stations.

The collection were then distributed to the hospitals. The campaign was supported by PetDag’s partners, Nestlè (M) Bhd, which co-sponsored gifts for the children.
