AMMAN – Jordan on Sunday condemned Israel’s opening of the so-called “Pilgrim Road” tunnel that was dug from under the village of Silwan to reach Al-Aqsa Mosque, Xinhua news agency reported, quoting a Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson.
Such decision is an irresponsible act that will only increase tension, the ministry’s spokesperson Sufian Qudah said in a statement.
The official reaffirmed Jordan’s rejection of any attempt to alter the identity of the holy city, especially in Al Haram Al Sharif.
The move breaches the international law and the international humanitarian law as well as the UNESCO resolutions calling for a halt to all illegal Israeli diggings in Jerusalem’s Old City, said the official.
The official urged the international community to fully uphold its legal and political responsibilities to stop these rejected practices.
