OUTGOING Sime Darby Plantations Bhd MD Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh has been appointed as the new chairman of the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda), replacing Tan Sri Megat Zaharuddin Megat Nor who resigned two days ago.
Economics Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali made the announcement in a statement earlier today after the appointment received the consent of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Mohd Bakke’s appointment is for a period of two years, effective July 1, 2019, until June 30, 2021.
Azmin said: “Mohd Bakke is a corporate leader who is credible and has integrity. He has a vast experience in the corporate sector, especially in the plantation industry. I have every confidence in his leadership to continue the effort to restore Felda as an agency that uplifts the lives of settlers and ensuring the sustainability of Felda.”
Azmin commended Megat Zaharuddin’s contribution to Felda throughout his 11-month tenure as chairman, saying that he has contributed to progressive ideas to help the Pakatan Harapan government rebuild the agency.
Megat Zaharuddin was a key figure in preparing the Felda White Paper which was tabled in Parliament in the previous sitting.
