A TOTAL of 2,977 cyber security incidents involving fraud, intrusion and malicious code have been recorded between January and April this year, CyberSecurity Malaysia said.

The national cyber security specialist agency released an alert and advisory yesterday to caution system administrators to take appropriate actions in safeguarding the safety of system and computer networks before leaving the office for a long holiday of the upcoming Hari Raya season.

“System administrators should always be careful of any possibilities of fraud, phishing attacks and malware activities such as ransomware during the festive season by implementing accurate preventive measures against the threats,” CyberSecurity Malaysia CEO Datuk Dr Amirudin Abdul Wahab said in a statement yesterday.

Amirudin said CyberSecurity Malaysia, an agency under the purview of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia, has released several alerts and advisories this year, including on vulnerabilities of WhatsApp Messenger, Fake Windows PC Cleaner, PHP PEAR weaknesses and 10kBlaze exploitation on SAP.

Amirudin also reminded Internet users to take cyber security incidents seriously, particularly on cases due to negligence.

He said Internet users should always update and patch their personal computers and browsers.
