Theresa May to quit as British PM early June

LONDON – Several local media organisations here have announced that British Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to resign as the Conservative leader on June 7 to make way for the selection of UK’s new prime minister.

The BBC reported her saying in a emotional statement at Downing Street that she had “done my best” to honour the 2016 EU referendum result.

She said that a new PM will be in the best interests of the country.

She added that being unable to deliver Brexit would remain a matter of “deep regret”.
