MaGIC appoints Abdul Rahman as chairman

The Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC) has appointed Datuk Abdul Rahman Mohd Hashim as its new chairman, effective yesterday.

Abdul Rahman, who is formerly Scomi Engineering Bhd chairman, joined MaGIC a month after Dzuleira Abu Bakar was named as the new CEO.

His appointment is subject to confirmation by the Companies Commission of Malaysia, the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development (MED) said in a statement yesterday.

Abdul Rahman started his career in 1983 as a legal officer at Petroliam Nasional Bhd before joining a leading law firm in Kuala Lumpur as a legal assistant. He then set up his own practice in September 1988 until now.

Abdul Rahman, who is serving as a principal partner of Messrs Rahman Hashim & Solicitors, is also the VP for the Malaysian Maritime Law Association.

Besides sitting on the boards of several private companies, he has also been on the boards of several public-listed companies for over 20 years in various capacities.

According to the ministry, MaGIC has been placed under MED with the mandate to build a sustainable entrepreneurship ecosystem and to help catalyse innovation and creativity for local start-ups.

“Under MED, MaGIC is also helping to drive Malaysia’s social enterprise ecosystem by creating social impact through entrepreneurship initiatives that are outward looking and cohesive,” it added.
