Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB) has joined forces with travel technology company Brand Expedia Group, ride-hailing app GrabTaxi Holdings Pte Ltd and telecommunications provider Maxis Bhd to offer further benefits to its MHexplorer product.

The new partnership will see MHexplorer benefits expanded beyond flight tickets to include discounts at domestic and international hotels, Grab rides and mobile plans.

The MHexplorer, the airline’s fully digitalised student travel programme, currently offers students a 20% fare discount all-year round, with additional 10kg baggage allowance for all classes, one complimentary travel date change, promotion for friends and family, as well as Enrich miles.

MAB group revenue officer Ignatius Ong said the new perks look at the travel experience holistically, allowing MHexplorer students to plan and book their complete travel itinerary all on one convenient platform and with great discounts.

“We have already seen great take up for our MHexplorer programme since its launch in October last year. Today, it has been expanded further to include even more exciting benefits for members.

“We understand the needs and concerns of our young traveller and these partnerships go a long wayin addressing them. Travelling can be expensive and confusing for the first-time traveller. There are flights to secure, taxis to book, hotels to research, as well as mobile coverage to ensure. All of this on top of a budget to be mindful of,” Ong said at the partnership signing event in Kelana Jaya, Selangor, yesterday.

Brand Expedia regional head of communications Lavinia Rajaram said the partnership with MAB marked a step forward in the company’s effort to introduce more affordable travel options.

MHexplorer subscribers will now be able to enjoy an 8% discount on domestic hotels and 10% off on international hotels.

“We are very excited to bring Expedia’s extensive access of more than one million properties globally, including thousands of amazing ones in South-East Asia coupled with 35,000 activities around the world for student travellers of Malaysia Airlines,” she said.

Meanwhile, Grab Malaysia head of operations Rashid Shukor said Grab is honoured to serve as Malaysia Airlines’ dedicated land transport partner for the MHexplorer programme.

The partnership with Grab enables members to benefit from an 8% discount on Grab rides to and from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Penang International Airport, Senai International Airport, Kuching International Airport and Kota Kinabalu International Airport.

Maxis’ head of brand and partnerships Tai Kam Leong added that MHexplorer clients can also save RM120 when they sign up for a Hotlink Flex Plus plan which comes with 10GB data and unlimited calls and SMS. The mobile plan, which originally costs RM60 per month, will now cost RM50 per month, over a duration of 12 months.
