MAHB staff seriously injured in airport accident

A MALAYSIA Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) employee sustained severe injuries after the airport engineering vehicle he was driving was involved in an accident with a private jet on the runway of the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang, Selangor, yesterday.

In a statement, MAHB said the incident occurred about 3.20am before a team from the Airport Fire and Rescue Service was dispatched to the scene a minute later.

“We are saddened to inform that our staff, who was the driver of the vehicle, was critically injured.

“The staff is currently undergoing surgery and we ensure that he receives the best medical care as we pray for his recovery,” it said.

MAHB also said the passengers and cabin crew of the aircraft were safe and unharmed during the incident.

The airport operator said an investigation team has been set up and is working closely with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia to probe the root cause of the accident.

MAHB added that the Transport Ministry has also activated its Air Accident Investigation Bureau to carry out a thorough investigation of the incident.

Several arrival flights were affected as they were held back at the airport of origin during the debris clearing process on the runway, it said.

However, flight operations resumed to normal from 9am onwards.
